Scotiabank

Email alerts

Set up Scotia InfoAlerts by email.

Scotiabank uses the same path on mobile and both web versions, which is unusual — and it is not where you would look first.

The feature is called

Scotia InfoAlerts

You can switch per-transaction email alerts on yourself, from online banking or the app.

By Rohtash Singh and Taniya Das, co-founders of Numero

Scotia InfoAlerts are notifications about activity on your bank accounts, credit cards, lines of credit or business accounts, and Scotiabank can send them as an app notification, email, or both.

The useful quirk here is consistency: Scotiabank documents the same navigation path across mobile, classic web and the new web experience. Set it up once and you know where it lives everywhere.

Past alerts are readable too. Scotiabank keeps InfoAlerts from the last 30 days in your Inbox, which is a way to confirm an alert fired even if the email did not reach you.

Step by step

What to do, in order.

  1. 01

    Select the profile menu

Scotiabank documents this identical path for mobile, classic web and the new web experience.

  2. 02

    Select Edit profile and settings

Alerts are under profile settings rather than under an alerts or notifications heading of their own.

  3. 03

    Go to Communication settings

This is the section holding how Scotiabank contacts you.

  4. 04

    Select Manage notifications

Choose which activity you want alerts for, and set them to arrive as an app notification, email, or both.

  5. 05

Check past alerts in your Inbox

Profile menu, then Inbox, then InfoAlerts shows notifications from the past 30 days — useful for confirming an alert fired.

Worth knowing

The things that catch Scotiabank customers out.

  • Alerts sit under Edit profile and settings, then Communication settings — not under a heading called Alerts.

  • Scotiabank documents the same path across mobile, classic web and the new web experience, so it is worth learning once.

  • InfoAlerts cover bank accounts, credit cards, lines of credit and business accounts — each worth reviewing.

  • Your Inbox keeps InfoAlerts from the past 30 days, which is how to confirm an alert fired when no email arrived.

Menus move. If this does not match what you see:

Scotiabank’s own page on this

Then Numero turns those alerts into a record.

Once Scotiabank is emailing you reliably, Numero reads what you authorize in Gmail or Outlook and organizes it — merchants normalized, subscriptions detected, refunds tracked to completion. It never asks for your Scotiabank login, card number, or OTP, and there is nowhere in the product to enter them.
