DBS / POSB Singapore

Email alerts

Fix the DBS alert thresholds that hide your everyday spending.

DBS is one of the few banks where email alerts are mandatory rather than optional. The problem is not the channel — it is the default thresholds.

The feature is called

Notifications and alerts

You can switch per-transaction email alerts on yourself, from online banking or the app.

By Rohtash Singh and Taniya Das, co-founders of Numero

DBS and POSB are unusual in a good way: for enhanced security, email and push notification alerts are mandatory for digital transactions and personal account updates. DBS also does not let you pick push alone — you must select either email or SMS alongside push notification. You cannot end up with no email channel at all, which is the failure mode at most other banks.

The problem at DBS is thresholds. The default threshold for funds transfer notification alerts is S$100, and the default for notification alerts on all DBS and POSB cards is S$500. A S$40 card purchase and a S$60 transfer both pass silently under those defaults — which covers most of what an ordinary week looks like.

So the job here is not enabling anything. It is going into Manage Notifications and lowering two numbers.

Step by step

What to do, in order.

  1. 01

    Log in to digibank mobile

Use Touch ID, Face ID, or your digibank User ID and PIN.

  2. 02

    Tap More

Notification settings are not on the main account screen.

  3. 03

Under App & Security Settings, tap Manage Notifications

This is the screen holding all alert preferences.

  4. 04

Choose your preference category — Accounts, Cards or Offers

Accounts and Cards are the two that matter. They hold the two thresholds you need to change.

  5. 05

Lower the thresholds, tap Next, then review and Submit

Drop the funds transfer threshold from its S$100 default and the card threshold from its S$500 default. Changes are not applied until you submit.

Worth knowing

The things that catch DBS / POSB Singapore customers out.

  • The funds transfer notification threshold defaults to S$100 — ordinary transfers below that are silent.

  • Card notification alerts default to S$500 across all DBS and POSB cards, which excludes almost all everyday card spending.

  • For enhanced security, email and push notification alerts are mandatory for digital transactions and personal account updates.

  • Selecting push notification only is not allowed — you must pick email or SMS alongside it.

  • Changes are not saved until you tap Next and then Submit on the review screen.

Menus move. If this does not match what you see:

Then Numero turns those alerts into a record.

Once DBS / POSB Singapore is emailing you reliably, Numero reads what you authorize in Gmail or Outlook and organizes it — merchants normalized, subscriptions detected, refunds tracked to completion. It never asks for your DBS / POSB Singapore login, card number, or OTP, and there is nowhere in the product to enter them.

Questions

DBS / POSB Singapore alerts, answered

Why am I not getting DBS alerts for small purchases?

The default threshold. Notification alerts on all DBS and POSB cards default to S$500, and funds transfer alerts default to S$100. Anything below those values does not trigger a notification until you lower the thresholds in Manage Notifications.

Can I turn DBS email alerts off?

Not entirely. For enhanced security, email and push notification alerts are mandatory for digital transactions and personal account updates, and DBS does not allow selecting push notification only — you must choose email or SMS alongside it.

Where are DBS notification settings in the app?

Log in to digibank mobile, tap More, then under App & Security Settings tap Manage Notifications. Choose Accounts or Cards, adjust your settings, tap Next, then review and Submit.
