Email alertsKotak alerts: the SMS ones cost money, the others do not.
Kotak's alert facility covers account transactions and maintenance events across email and mobile. The channel you pick decides whether you pay for it.
The feature is called
Email & SMS Alert subscription
You can switch per-transaction email alerts on yourself, from online banking or the app.
By Rohtash Singh and Taniya Das, co-founders of Numero
Kotak Mahindra Bank's alert facility sends alerts to your email and mobile covering account transactions and account maintenance events. One-time passwords and transaction alerts both go to the preferred email ID and mobile number registered with the bank — so that pair is worth getting right before anything else.
Kotak has moved to per-SMS pricing on some alert categories, which makes the channel choice a financial one rather than just a preference. Email does not carry that per-message cost.
The reassuring part: if you deactivate subscription-based alerts, regulatory and risk alerts still arrive, without charge. Trimming alert noise at Kotak does not leave you blind to the alerts that matter most.
What to look for
What Kotak Mahindra Bank actually documents.
Kotak publishes a downloadable “Email & SMS Alert (Individuals / Non-individuals) Subscription” form. That is the documented route to activating or deactivating alerts, and it does not depend on finding the right online screen.
Alerts go to the preferred email ID and mobile number registered with the bank. OTPs use the same pair, so changing it affects both.
The alert facility covers account transactions and account maintenance events — both worth having.
Deactivating subscription alerts leaves regulatory and risk alerts running, at no charge.
Kotak has introduced per-SMS pricing on some alert categories, so check what your current subscription is costing before you keep it.

Worth knowing
The things that catch Kotak Mahindra Bank customers out.
Kotak has moved to per-SMS pricing on some alert categories, so an SMS-heavy subscription has a running cost.
Deactivating subscription alerts does not stop regulatory and risk alerts — those keep arriving at no charge.
OTPs go to the same preferred email and mobile as alerts, so changing the preferred address affects both.
Kotak publishes a printable alert subscription form, which is the documented route when the online screen is unclear.
Menus move. If this does not match what you see:
Kotak Mahindra Bank’s own page on thisThen Numero turns those alerts into a record.
Once Kotak Mahindra Bank is emailing you reliably, Numero reads what you authorize in Gmail or Outlook and organizes it — merchants normalized, subscriptions detected, refunds tracked to completion. It never asks for your Kotak Mahindra Bank login, card number, or OTP, and there is nowhere in the product to enter them.

Kotak Mahindra Bank alerts, answered
If I turn off Kotak alerts, do I stop getting everything?
No. Deactivating subscription-based alerts leaves regulatory and risk alerts in place, and Kotak sends those without charge. You cannot accidentally switch off the ones that matter most.
Where does Kotak send alerts?
To the preferred email ID and mobile number registered with the bank. That same pair is used for OTPs, so keep it pointing at an inbox and a number you actively use.
How do I change my Kotak alert subscription?
Kotak publishes an “Email & SMS Alert Subscription” form for individuals and non-individuals, which is its documented route for activating and deactivating alerts. Net banking and the app also surface alert preferences, but Kotak does not publish a current click-path for them, so we do not print one here.
